How it works

Sign up with an email and password, or continue with Google. Pick a username and display name, and you're in — no payment, no waiting.

From Preferences (in the Profile menu), choose whether your account is public or anyone can see your posts and profile, or private so only accepted friends can.

Search finds two different things: interest groups (rooms) by keyword, or people by name. Both let you narrow by country and province/state, defaulting to your own location from the Personal or Preferences page if you’ve set one, or United States otherwise.

Room search matches your keywords against a room’s name, topic, and description. People search matches a first name, last name, or both, and can include an age range — someone who hasn’t shared their birthday is still included rather than excluded for missing that detail. Both searches are a little forgiving of typos and partial words, but won’t return results that don’t actually match.

Share a photo, a video, or just a thought from the Home feed. Comment on posts (one level of threaded replies), and react with a like or dislike.

Your feed shows posts from your friends, from public accounts, and your own — private accounts' posts are visible only to their owner and accepted friends.

Search for someone by username and send a friend request from the Friends page (or find them by name from the Search page instead), and accept/decline requests you receive there. Remove a friend any time.

Don't see someone you know? Invite them by email from the Friends page, even if they're not on Kaput Nick yet — the moment they sign up using your invite link, you're automatically connected as friends, no separate accept step needed.

Direct-message any accepted friend from the Messages page. Conversations update live — no need to refresh to see a reply come in.

A room is a special-interest club with its own live chat. Browse and join public rooms, or host your own around whatever you’re into.

A room can have its own photo and video gallery, added by a host when creating or editing it. In chat, anyone in the room can attach photos and videos to their own messages, the same as posting on the Home feed.

As a host, you can invite existing members from your friends list, or invite someone who isn’t on Kaput Nick yet by email — they get the room’s details and a join link, and signing up automatically makes them your friend and a member of the room. You can also edit your room’s details or delete it any time from the room page.

A room can have more than one host. Add a friend as a co-host from the room page any time — hosts can do everything you can, including adding other hosts. If you step down as host and no one else is hosting, the room is deleted rather than left without one.

Host an event for your friends, or for a room you run. Everyone invited gets an in-app notification, and can RSVP Going, Maybe, or Can't go.

As a host, invite specific friends from the event page, or invite people who aren’t members yet by email — they get the party details (time, location, description) and a join link. Signing up automatically connects them as your friend, RSVPs them to the event, and — for a room-hosted event — adds them to that room too.

Once you RSVP Going, you can add the event straight to Google Calendar or download an .ics file for Apple Calendar, Outlook, or anything else.

The Alerts page collects everything that needs your attention: friend requests and accepts, comments and reactions on your posts, room and event invites, and birthday reminders for friends whose birthday is coming up in the next week.

Your profile page shows your display name, bio, and posts — edit those any time from the “Edit profile” button there. Photos & videos manages your uploaded media.

• Personal — optional contact details (name, address, phone), never shown on your public profile
• Preferences — notifications and promotional email toggles, your birthday (used for friend birthday reminders — only the day and month are shared), and whether your account is public or private
• Password — change your account password

Every photo and video is reviewed before it’s shown publicly.
